Bhutan Holds 13,029 BTC, Ranks 4th Largest Bitcoin Treasury

The Bhutanese government currently holds 13,029 bitcoins, making it the fourth-largest bitcoin holder by country, according to data from Arkham Intelligence. This amounts to approximately $755 million at current prices. The United States holds the most bitcoins in the world, with 213,246 BTC, followed by China with 190,000 BTC. Bhutan's significant bitcoin holdings are a testament to the country's growing interest in cryptocurrency. The government has been exploring the use of blockchain technology for various applications, including land registry and digital identity. In May 2022, Bhutan's central bank announced plans to develop a national cryptocurrency, the Digital Ngultrum. The project is still in its early stages, but it demonstrates the country's commitment to embracing digital finance.
