Coinbase Narrows Request for SEC Chair Gensler's Email Probe

Coinbase has narrowed the scope of its subpoena for emails from SEC Chair Gary Gensler. The cryptocurrency exchange had previously sought information from 2017, before Gensler became the chairman in 2021, up to the present. However, in a letter filed with the US court, Coinbase stated that it is now narrowing the scope of the subpoena to the period of Gensler's chairmanship. Coinbase is seeking the emails as part of its lawsuit against the SEC over the agency's rejection of its application for a bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF). The exchange argues that the SEC's decision was arbitrary and capricious, and that Gensler's emails may shed light on the agency's decision-making process. The SEC has opposed Coinbase's request for Gensler's emails, arguing that they are protected by attorney-client privilege. The court has yet to rule on the SEC's objection.
