Coinone Investigates NFP Theft, Files Criminal Complaint

Coinone, a South Korean cryptocurrency exchange, has released a statement regarding the delayed NFP token swap, stating that it has conducted its own investigation into the incident. The investigation did not find any evidence to conclusively determine that a hack had occurred, but it did find that ill-gotten gains had been circulated on Coinone last April. Coinone has filed a criminal complaint and the investigation is ongoing. "We are working with the investigating authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are punished to the fullest extent of the law," Coinone said. The Coinone NFP incident occurred on March 28, when a domestic investor purchased stolen assets from a hacker in an off-exchange transaction and then deposited them on Coinone, which failed to block the deposit and withdrawal. The price of the coin plummeted by about 70% compared to global exchanges that had blocked the deposit and withdrawal. Coinone added, "We strongly urge the NFP Foundation to actively cooperate in the investigation by sharing the results of its investigation or cooperating with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)."
