CMT Digital Raises $150 Million Fund for Crypto, Blockchain Investments

CMT Digital, a venture capital firm focused on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, has launched a new $150 million fund. The fund will invest in hardware-related application development, decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN), and other areas. The fundraise is being led by Gerald Brant, CMT Digital's capital lead and a former executive at BlockTower Capital and Pantera Capital. Brant said the fund will invest in companies that are "building the infrastructure for the future of finance." CMT Digital has already invested in several companies in the crypto and blockchain space, including Anchorage, Blockdaemon, and Fireblocks. The firm is also a backer of the DePIN Alliance, a group of companies working to develop a decentralized physical infrastructure for the internet. The launch of CMT Digital's new fund is a sign of the growing interest in crypto and blockchain technology from venture capitalists. In 2021, venture capitalists invested a record $32 billion in crypto and blockchain companies. This year, that number is expected to be even higher.
