Crypto Regulation Not Needed, Says US Libertarian VP Candidate

In an interview with Cointelegraph, Mike ter Maat, running mate of America's Libertarian presidential candidate Chase Oliver, said he "doesn't think new crypto regulation is necessary, the problem comes in trying to steal other people’s properties." He went on to say that he "thinks more mainstream technology and more mainstream finance are going to play a bigger role, I would love to see crypto become a national conversation, I am not sure that it will." Libertarian candidates have traditionally taken a hands-off approach to regulation, and ter Maat's comments are in line with that philosophy. However, his views are at odds with the Biden administration, which has been actively considering new regulations for cryptocurrency. It remains to be seen whether ter Maat's views will resonate with voters. However, his comments underscore the growing debate over the future of cryptocurrency regulation.
