Montenegro's Supreme Court Halts Do Kwon's Extradition to South Korea

Montenegro's Supreme Court has suspended the extradition of Do Kwon, co-founder of the now-defunct Terraform Labs, to South Korea. Kwon is wanted in South Korea on charges related to the collapse of the TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin and its sister token, Luna, which led to billions of dollars in losses for investors in May 2022. The Supreme Court's decision comes after a lower court in Montenegro had approved Kwon's extradition in December 2022. Kwon's lawyers have argued that he should not be extradited because he is not a flight risk and that he would not receive a fair trial in South Korea. The South Korean government has stated that it will continue to pursue Kwon's extradition. It remains to be seen whether Montenegro's Supreme Court will ultimately approve Kwon's extradition or whether he will be able to successfully resist extradition.
