Nigeria: “Binance Executive’s Prosecution Is Legitimate..., Sure of Proving Allegations”

Nigeria's State Security Services (SSS) has defended its prosecution of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, saying it has a strong case against him. Gambaryan was arrested in Nigeria in December 2021 and has been charged with a range of offences, including operating an unlicensed money transfer business and providing false information to the SSS. The SSS Director-General, Mohammed Idris, said in a statement that the prosecution is confident of proving its case against Gambaryan. "The due process of law has been followed in the case of Gambaryan, and the prosecution is confident of proving its case with the evidence that has been assembled so far," Idris said. "He will also have his chance to defend himself when he appears before the court on the 20th of this month." Gambaryan's arrest and prosecution have raised concerns about the Nigerian government's stance on cryptocurrency. In December 2021, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) banned banks from dealing with cryptocurrency exchanges. The CBN has also warned Nigerians against investing in cryptocurrencies.
