SBI Group's Crypto Unit Bolsters Team with Ex-Bank of Korea Official

SBI Digital Market, the cryptocurrency arm of Japanese financial services giant SBI Group, has appointed Byun Jae-young, a former senior official at the Bank of Korea, as a senior consultant. Byun, who previously led the international planning team at the central bank, brings extensive experience in financial regulation and policymaking to SBI. He also served as the Korea head of Northern Trust, one of the largest trust banks in the United States. "We are delighted to welcome Mr. Byun to our team," said an SBI spokesperson. "His expertise in regulatory compliance and international markets will be invaluable as we continue to expand our services in Korea." SBI's move to hire a former central banker underscores the growing institutional interest in cryptocurrency. As the industry matures and regulations evolve, companies are increasingly seeking out individuals with deep knowledge of both traditional finance and digital assets.
