Solo Stakers Crucial for Ethereum Decentralization, Says Vitalik Buterin

Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, recently emphasized the critical role of solo stakers in enhancing the decentralization of the Ethereum network. Solo stakers refer to individual validators who independently participate in the network's consensus mechanism without relying on staking pools or other centralized entities. Buterin, speaking at the Ethereum Singapore 2024 event, highlighted that solo stakers significantly reduce the network's reliance on centralized entities and provide important decentralization guarantees. This decentralization is crucial to ensure the network's security and resilience against potential attacks. Additionally, Buterin suggested that the Ethereum network should consider increasing its finality threshold from 2/3 to a higher level, potentially 3/4 or more, to further strengthen its security against 51% attacks. A 51% attack refers to a scenario where a single entity or group gains control over a majority of the network's computational power, allowing them to potentially manipulate transactions and disrupt the network's operations. Raising the finality threshold would make it more difficult for an attacker to successfully execute such an attack.
