StarkWare and Matter Labs Clash Over ZK Trademark

StarkWare and Matter Labs, two prominent players in the zero-knowledge (ZK) ecosystem, are embroiled in a dispute over the trademark for the term "ZK." StarkWare, the company behind the Ethereum layer-2 network StarkNet, has accused Matter Labs, the developer of ZkSync, of attempting to monopolize the term by filing trademark applications in nine jurisdictions. StarkWare argues that "ZK is a public good that belongs to everyone." Matter Labs CEO Alex Gluchowski countered by claiming Matter Labs did this to shield its users from malicious actors and expressed the company's desire to create a legal framework that allows technical terms like ZK to remain in the public domain.
