Fed Could Cut Interest Rates Three Times by Year-End

The Federal Reserve may reduce interest rates three times by the end of the year. The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported that the core personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index rose by 0.2% in June from the prior month. The increase in the PCE was lower than expected, indicating that inflation remains subdued. Subdued inflation usually causes central banks to loosen monetary policy by cutting interest rates. As a result, markets now expect the Fed to cut interest rates three times before the end of 2019.
