Celo to Build Layer-2 on Optimism's OP Stack

Celo (CELO), an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain, is set to build its layer-2 on Optimism's OP Stack. This decision comes after eight months of evaluating various layer-2 solutions, including Arbitrum, Polygon, and zkSync. cLabs, the primary developer of Celo, highlighted that a layer-2 testnet is in the pipeline for deployment this summer, subject to a community vote. The move to an Ethereum-based layer-2 network aims to enhance scalability and reduce transaction costs. Previously on 22 April 2024, Celo announced its plans to build a layer-2 solution. The project has since narrowed down its options and selected Optimism's OP Stack for its modularity and open-source nature.
