Crypto Attorney John Deaton Seeks to Support Coinbase in Lawsuit

John Deaton, a prominent crypto attorney, has once again requested to appear as an amicus curiae (friend of the court) in the ongoing lawsuit between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Coinbase. The SEC filed a lawsuit against Coinbase in June 2022, alleging that the crypto exchange sold unregistered securities. Coinbase has since filed to dismiss the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, but the motion was denied and a hearing in the case is scheduled for October 24 this year. Deaton had previously filed for amicus status in the case in October last year. In addition to his involvement in the SEC-Coinbase lawsuit, Deaton is also representing Ripple in its own legal battle with the SEC. He recently ran for the Republican nomination for U.S. Congress in February this year.
