Harris-hosted crypto industry roundtable leaves lawmaker expecting 'positive statement' from administration soon

Cryptocurrency executives met with officials from the Treasury Department and the campaign of Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris on Monday, and they came away with positive feelings about the prospects for regulation of the industry if Democrat Joe Biden is elected president. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), who hosted the “roundtable” discussion, said on Twitter that the “spirited & positive conversation” led him to expect a “positive statement from the administration in the coming weeks with a roadmap for sensible regulation.” “The crypto industry is innovating and creating jobs in the US, but without clear guardrails & regulation it will struggle,” he added, arguing that “sensible regulation will help ensure that American crypto companies can innovate and create jobs while following the law. Crypto tech is critical to US leadership in the 21st century & digital economy. We must get this right if we want to win the future for America.” CoinDesk previously reported that the roundtable, which included former Harris senior adviser Brendan Thomas, took place Monday.
