Hong Kong Lawmaker Pushes for Broader Crypto Trading Access

Robert Lee Wai-wang, a Hong Kong lawmaker, has called on the government to "promote the retailisation of virtual assets (cryptocurrencies)." According to local media outlet Ta Kung Pao, Lee believes that financial authorities should "listen to the views of the local virtual asset industry and appropriately allow retail (individual) investors to trade major cryptocurrencies." He emphasized the importance of investor education and the allowance of retail investors to engage in a wider range of virtual asset transactions. "The government should also implement regulatory protection for transactions on compliant platforms to facilitate the development of Hong Kong's virtual asset market," he added.
