Ethereum Devs Split Pectra Hard Fork into Two Stages for Wallet and EOF Upgrades

Ethereum developers have agreed to split the upcoming Pectra hard fork into two parts, each with a specific focus on wallet improvements and EOF upgrades. The decision was made during a recent meeting, as reported by CoinDesk. The first package, scheduled for implementation in February 2025, will primarily include EIPs centered on enhancing user experience and wallet functionality. EIP-7702, a proposal to improve the performance of light clients, is one of the key EIPs expected in this package. The second package will concentrate on EOF upgrades, targeting improvements to the Ethereum Object Format (EOF), a crucial component for Ethereum's long-term scalability. Specific EIPs included in this package will be determined in future developer meetings. This split aims to optimize the hard fork process by dividing it into more manageable parts. By focusing on specific upgrade areas, the Ethereum team intends to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Pectra hard fork.
