Seoul Prosecutor's Office to Launch 'Virtual Asset Joint Division' Next Year

On April 29th, 2023, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office announced the launch of a new 'Virtual Asset Crime Joint Investigation Team'. This team is part of a larger initiative by the Ministry of Justice to upgrade the Virtual Asset Joint Team to a full-fledged 'joint division'. The new division will aim to resolve issues that occur when cooperating with other organizations concerning virtual asset crimes, such as the Financial Supervisory Service, Financial Intelligence Unit, National Tax Service, Customs Service, Korea Exchange, and Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation. The Virtual Asset Joint Division will also enhance communication with overseas organizations to combat virtual asset crimes more effectively. This division will help to strengthen the prosecution's response to virtual asset crimes and contribute to the overall development of a safer virtual asset ecosystem.
