Surge in Virtual Asset Market: Total Market Cap Reaches 43.6 Trillion Won

In the second half of 2023, the total market capitalization of virtual assets in South Korea experienced a significant increase of 53% compared to the first half, reaching a value of 43.6 trillion won. This growth represents an increase of 15.2 trillion won from the 28.4 trillion won recorded at the end of June 2023. The number of individuals and corporations utilizing virtual asset exchanges with completed customer identification obligations also saw a 6% increase, rising to 6.45 million. Individuals in their 30s and 40s constituted the largest user base, with 29.3% and 28.9% respectively. Previously on 15 May 2024, the total market capitalization of domestic virtual assets increased by 53% in the second half of 2023 compared to the first half, reaching a value of 43.6 trillion won.
