Worldcoin's SMPC Revolutionizes Iris Data Privacy

Worldcoin's blockchain-based iris scanning project has taken a significant step forward with the open-sourcing of their Secure Multi-Party Computing (SMPC) system. The new SMPC system encrypts user iris data codes into secret shares held by different parties, enabling the permanent deletion of iris data collected using the previous verification system. Remco Bloemen, Head of Protocol at the Worldcoin Foundation, emphasizes the enhanced security and data governance provided by the open-source SMPC system, which effectively protects biometric data against quantum computing threats. Previously on 15th May 2024, the Worldcoin Foundation announced the open-sourcing of its SMPC system, marking a pivotal moment in iris data privacy and security.
